Dr James Hansen's remarks to COP23 in Bonn, Germany

Global Climate Justice: Making the Carbon Majors Pay for Climate Action

Dr. James Hansen gave two press conferences during the Congress of Parties in Bonn, Germany on Monday 6 November with his granddaughter Sophie Kivlehan and Tuesday 7 November with attorney Dan Galpern. They gave a clarion call for action. We must put a price on carbon immediately. All countries with functioning judiciaries must sue fossil fuel companies to make them pay the costs of damages being inflicted on current and future generations. Island nations and coastal cities will be inundated by rising seas, and many areas will contend with stronger storms, fires, floods, droughts and other consequences. There must be no further delay.

Here are his remarks:

What is your city, company or nation doing? We are in an emergency and need to recognize that profound change is needed. We need to hold ourselves and our elected officials accountable.
